Nokia Lumia 620: Comparison with alternatives in the Rs. 15,000 segment

After months of delay and speculation about the launch of the Nokia Lumia 620 in India, the curtain has finally lifted on its price. For Rs. 15,199, the Windows Phone 8 device offers a dual-core 1GH Snapdragon S4 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM.

The Nokia Lumia 620 smartphone features a 3.8-inch 800×480 pixel ClearBlack display. Other specifications of the Lumia 620 include a 5MP rear camera with 720p HD video recording, VGA front-facing camera, 8GB of built-in storage that’s expandable via microSD card to 64GB, and a 1,300mAh battery. The smartphone also offers 7GB of SkyDrive cloud storage.

The specifications of the Nokia Lumia 620 aren’t the best but considering the OS that the device runs, it is more than enough to hold its own in front of the competition. The Android options on the list however, do bring some interesting features to the table.

To start off, we have the Micromax A116 Canvas HD. This is one device that has created quite a stir in the market. For a budget of roughly Rs. 14,000, you not only get a 720p JD display, but a quad-core processor as well. The device is a powerhouse as a performer, but is plagued with random bugs and crashes. The Sony Xperia U is your run-of-the-mill mid-ranged Android smartphone. What’s good about the device is that it the 3.5-inch display is really crisp and good especially if you watch videos on it. The power under the hood is good enough to run all the apps available on the Play store. On the downside, the device has low built-in storage and the lack of expandable option is a big downer. The camera of the device isn’t the best in its price range and it does run Android 2.3 Gingerbread but can be upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS. The build of the smartphone is something to look out for, as it is one of the better-built devices in its price range.

The LG Optimus L7 is LG’s mid-range Android 4.0 ICS smartphone. The device has an IPS display, which not only gives it great viewing angles, but also, the colours on the device look very vibrant. The design of the device is simple yet elegant. It is well built. The call quality from this smartphone is better than what its peers offer. On the downside, the camera of the smartphone isn’t the best at its price.

The WickedLeak Wammy Sensation is the underdog in this list. For the price you pay, you get the same specifications as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and that is saying something. The device may show off a 12MP camera but its performance is nothing to write home about. It has looks very reminiscent of the S III and the display is vibrant with good viewing angles.
