BlackBerry 10 was launched just 6 days ago and the company has already pushed out an OTA update to address 5 major areas. While some may consider that the new operating system is buggy, we feel that the good guys at BB are really trying very hard to address any and all issues with the new and nascent OS and so far, they’re doing a good job.
So what are the five areas that the company formerly known as RIM has addressed? Well, for starters the new update is going to bring some serious performance improvement to third party apps so that developers can create apps that will run as fluid as the OS itself. In fact, the update has helped coders behind WhatsApp finally push out an ETA on the BB app, which they say will now hit the phone in March for sure.
The second area of improvement is of course, the camera. While our tests have shown that the camera on the 10 is quite decent in of itself, matching the iPhone 5’s performance in many ways, but BlackBerry says the new update is aimed at improving the low-light performance of the 10’s camera. We’re not really sure how much of an improvement will be there, but we we’re pretty sure the tweaks are at the algorithm end.
The third update comes for fixing the Gmail calendars on BB10 along with improved call logging in the Hub. The update also makes it easier to import contacts from various online sources. The last two updates are improvements to “browser and media playback” along with improvements to battery life. Blackberry isn’t being very specific on how the browser and media experience is being improved through this update, except that it is. Battery also gets a performance boost with this update bringing 60 optimi ations to the table which BB claims will keep the phone going through out the day.
Whether the update lives up to its tall claims is something we’ll have to see once we get it. The update is being rolled out as an Over-The-Air update, which we aren’t seeing on our units yet, so keep checking your phone.
